Studio Sessions for RCA March 27-29, 1972: RCA's Studio C, Hollywood

"When I went into those recording sessions there was a lot of exuberance, a lot of energy. I thought that was one of the best things I had ever done, and we did some great tunes and there was a lot of hashing over the tunes to get them just exactly the right way. And, everybody was there. It was very professional and at the same time the energy level was high," said Emory Gordy.
Sitting in for Jerry Scheff, bass player Emory Gordy was playing with Elvis for the first time at Elvis's first session since he had stormed out of Nashville studio the year before. Everyone was hoping that moving to RCA's Hollywood studios, where he hadn't recorded since G.I. Blues in April of 1960, and recording with his touring band for the first time ever might be just the artistic and commercial shot in the arm he needed.
Elvis always pushed himself to excel whenever he was recording with new players, and despite the fact that he'd played countless live shows with them it was a whole different ball game working with his road band in the studio. Emory Gordy, the only newcomer, noted that Elvis's "intent and concentration" were all there; "he was in very good shape at that time," he remembers. Focusing in on each number carefully, they worked on no more than two or three songs each night, but each of the songs got everyone's full attention. "For The Good Times" was recorded in four takes. First released June 10, 1972-Madison Square Garden. LP's: Elvis as Recorded at Madison Square Garden, Welcome To My World. This version was taken from Walk A Mile In My Shoes, The Essential 70's Masters.

The Complete Recording Sessions by Ernst Jorgensen
Don't look so sad, I know it's over
But life goes on and this old world will keep on turning
Let's just be glad we had some time to spend together
There's no need o watch the bridges that we're burning

Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops fallin' soft against the window
And make believe you love me one more time

For the Good times
I'll get along, you'll find another
And I'll be here if you should find you ever need me
Don't say a word about tomorrow or forever
There'll be time enough for sadness when you leave me

Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops fallin' soft against the window
And make believe you love me one more time

For the good times
For the good times
