Studio Sessions for RCA April 3, 1960: RCA's Studio B, Nashville

Elvis's first post-army session had been a tremendous success, with a million selling single and four album cuts beautifully recorded in under twelve hours. Steve Sholes attributed its success largely to the professionalism of the session musicians and the improvements in recording quality, but he also recognized Elvis's own newfound maturity.
Elvis returned to Studio B ready to tackle a new set of songs, pushed by RCA deadline of April 5 for the album masters, but also hoping to get a single or two knocked off in the bargain. Elvis fulfilled a promise to Scotty Moore, cutting a song by the Scotty's Fernwood Records act Thomas Wayne. "Girl Next Door Went A'Walking" was no great composition, but Elvis glided through it in four takes. Then, in another favor to a friend, he cut "I Will Be Home Again." Elvis had met fellow G.I. Charlie Hodge on the boat to Germany; a professional musician who'd sung with the Foggy River Boys behind artists such as Red Foley and Gene Autry, Charlie had spent a lot of time singing and harmonizing with Elvis in the past two years, and had introduced him to the song as a pop entry on a Golden Gate Quartet album. Elvis brought Charlie in to sing the song with him as a duet, their voices blending together perfecrly for the first time on record.
     First released on LP:
Elvis Is Back 1960, which was a triumph on every level. Elvis had never been heard like this before. There was new depth to his voice; his interpretations were increasingly sophisticated; the group was probably the best studio band in the business; the song selection was imaginative and varied, the technical quality excellent. It was as if Elvis had invented his own brand of music, broken down the barriers of genre and prejudice to express everything he heard in all kinds of music he loved.
(The Complete Recording Sessions by Ernst Jorgensen)

As I was going through cd's yesterday, I came across this song. This was the first time I'd heard it or maybe just never really listened to it before. This is a beautiful song, and as I always say, I love it..........
I will be home again
Don't worry dear
I'll be home again
So won't you dry the tear
The promise in your eyes
Will see me through
There'll be brighter skies
When I come back to you

A-a-ah sweetheart
The love you're giving
Thrills my hungry heart
You make my life worth the living
Although we are apart
I will be home again
We'll start anew
Darling until then
Our dreams will have to do

A-a-ah sweetheart
The love you're giving
Thrills my hungry heart
You make my life worth the living
Although we are apart
I will be home again
We'll start anew
Darling until then
Our dreams will have to do
