| Bert and Tamara "A Love Story" It was 1976 when Tamara first saw Bert. She'd gone to watch her brother play soccer and there He was. It was love at first sight for both. After that, she always accompanied her parents to the games just so she could see Bert. They thought she liked the game and had no idea she was interested in Him. When He came over to say hello to her parents, Tamara would get to talk to Him. She went to the games every weekend and got to know Him better and soon He was driving her home. No one ever noticed. A few weeks after meeting, they both knew how they felt but could tell no one because Tamara was too young, being only 14 and Bert 7 years older, so they decided to hide their feelings. They found a place where they could meet, just to talk and be together. Nothing wrong ever happened at their "place" which was on the bank of a small pond near her parents home. Tamara would sneak out of the house to meet him and after a while it became harder for them to hide their feelings but they kept it a secret for 2 years. During this time, Bert got to know her parents and when Tamara was 16, they told them how they felt about each other. Her parents were shocked, brought up the age difference and Tamara reminded them there was the same age difference between them. They weren't happy about it, being protective of their daughter but accepted the relationship after a while. The same reaction came from Berts' parents and His friends didn't understand at all. Tamara was too young, still in school, etc but it all worked out. Bert and Tamara were married November 5, 1980 when Tamara was 18 and even though friends said it wouldn't last, the love between them was as strong 23 years later as the day they were married. Their love produced a Beautiful daughter, Doortje. |
