| Great song!!! "We Can Make The Morning" was written by Jay Ramsey and recorded by Elvis on May 20, 1971 at RCA Studio B in Nashville. The song came toward the end of a full week of recording. Earlier much of the album "Elvis Sings the Wonderful World of Christmas" and several songs from the albums "Elvis(Fool)" and "He Touched Me" were recorded. During these sessions James Burton and Chip Young played guitar. Charlie Hodge played the acoustic guitar, Norbert Putnam played the bass. Kenneth Buttrey played the drums, David Briggs on piano. Organ, hormonica, and percussion instruments were played by Charlie McCoy. The Imperials, Millie Kirkham,Giner Holladay, and Temple Riser provide backup vocals. It was shipped along with "Until Its Time For You To Go" as the flip side in January 1972. It stayed on the Billboard EasyListening chart for 7 weeks and peaked at #9. Archives Staff Hill and Range brought "We Can Make The Morning" to Elvis which means they had worked out a publishing deal on the song rights already because they didn't like Elvis to record anything that they didn't have the rights to. And since it was at the end of this very long week of recording Ernst Jorgensen says," The sessions were running out of steam, and Elvis out of voice..." This was a request from Linda. She helped me research this song and came up with the above information from the Archives Staff. Photo's are from 1972. |

| I just thought I heard a small voice crying Looked again and saw that it was me I feel like a little boy denying That he fears the night 'cause he can't see Then a larger thought said stop your crying Don't be scared to search 'cause you may find Fate holds out a candle for your footsteps Time rolls back the shadows of your mind It's a long, long lonely night You can make the morning if you try It's a long, long lonely night Oh, we can make the morning if we try Girl, we can make the morning you and I Together, together, together Loneliness is darkness' first companion Spend the night alone and faith may bend Share it all and see how fear starts fading Chase away the shadows with a friend Dawn's elusive light is just beginning Now the day can push away the night Dreams can make the sun feel much brighter Hope creates a foothold for the light It's a long, long lonely night We can make the morning if we try It's a long, long lonely night We can make the morning if we try Girl, we can make the morning you and I, Oh Together It's a long, long lonely night We can make the morning if we try It's a long, long lonely night We can make the morning if we try It's a long, long lonely night We can make the morning if we try Words & music: Jay Ramsey |
