Today, January 8, 2002 would have been Elvis Presley's 67th birthday and fans from all over the world are in Memphis at Graceland celebrating this event. Today at 11:45 AM on the Graceland Mansion front lawn, city, county and EPE officials proclaimed Elvis Presley Day, as is done every year on Elvis' birthday. This year's proclamation ceremony featured a special appearance by the Marion (Arkansas) High School Band who performed America the Beautiful and If I Can Dream. This year's Birthday Dance Event (8 - midnight on January 8 in Memphis at the Marriott hotel) benefits the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation and has a patriotic theme, complete with red, white and blue decor and screenings of Elvis' film, G.I. Elvis sang "Memories" to a prerecorded backing track on both shows. These "live" versions are shorter than the released version. "Memories" was released as a single with the title song from Charro as the B-side, a gesture from the Colonel to National General Pictures. |
