| Live Recordings for RCA August 21-26, 1969: The International Hotel, Las Vegas. The reviews of the Las Vegas opening were nothing less than sensational. Rolling Stone raved, "Elvis was supernatural, his own resurrection." Clad in black karate-style outfits for most ot the shows, often banging away at an electric guitar, the slim, suntanned singer worked so hard that many of the spectators wondered when he would collapse. He never did. The selection of material for the show remained much as he and Charlie Hodge had planned it. A medley of "Yesterday" and "Hey Jude" made a bow to comtemporary music, as did the Bee Gees' "Words." Old favorites like "I Can't Stop Loving You," Del Shannon's "Runaway," Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode," Willie Nelson's "Funny How Time Slips Away," and the R&B standard "My Babe" added variety to the shows. When the Colonel and RCA decided to record an album of the event, Felton Jarvis rigged up an eight-track mobile unit, and for six nights beginning on August 21 recorded every show in its entirety. The entire engagement was a sellout and an overwhelming success. The only concern raised by the hotel was the content of Elvis's long monologues about his life and career. In the army, he told the audience, "those guys get awful lonely, saying mother all the time, and that's only half of it." When talking about his movies he'd display a disarming element of self-mockery. (The Complete Recording Sessions by Ernst Jorgensen) This version of "My Babe" was recorded live in concert August 25, 1969, LP's Elvis Aron Presley, Elvis In Person and From Memphis To Vegas/From Vegas To Memphis.
