| Elvis opened in Vegas on January 26, 1971, accompanied by yet another death threat. There were flamboyant new outfits (a dark, two-piece "Cisco Kid" ensemble, with silver studs was probably the most spectacular) and a new song list that once again leaned heavily on ballads and high-lighted the inspirational. Although he had the flu during part of the engagement, and there were criticism even from the fans of some of his "off" nights, there was no question of his high spirits.
