| June 5, 1964 Elvis begins filming Girl Happy for MGM in Culver City. June 16, at Radio Recorders, Elvis lays down the vocals on previously recorded tracks for the Girl Happy soundtracks: Cross My Heart And Hope To Die, Do Not Disturb, Do The Clam, Fort Lauderdale Chamber Of Commerce, Girl Happy, I've Got To Find My Baby, Puppet On A String, Spring Fever, Startin' Tonight, The Meanest Girl In Town and Wolf Call. July, Girl Happy moves on location to Fort Lauderdale. When the movie wraps and he returns to Memphis at the end of August, Elvis has been gone from home for over eight months. April 7, 1965, Girl Happy opens nationally to strong box office and positive reviews. Plot: Rusty Wells (Elvis) and his band quit the Nightclub where they work for a vacation in Fort Lauderdale, but end up being forced to look after their gangster boss' daughter who is staying at the same resort. At first she seems like a plain Jane, but soon reveals her true charms and Elvis and the boys have to come up with plenty of schemes to keep the local romeos away from her and keep the boss happy. Shelley Fabares appeared in three of Elvis' films and Elvis considered her one of his favorite actresses. He felt that she liked him as a person and wasn't awed by his celebrity.
