| REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 September 11, 2001 is a day that will live in our minds and hearts forever. I was awakened by a phone call from my son saying that a plane had flown into one of the twin towers in New York. He was very concerned knowing my daughter frequently traveled on business and was afraid she might be in New York. I thank God that she was safe at home with her family. I turned on the T.V. and watched in horror as another plane hit the second tower, and then yet another hit the Pentagon. What was becoming of our world? Who could possibly want to inflict such pain and suffering on another human being? Then, there was a spark of hope in this dismal day. Another plane crashed in Philadelphia, but this time the passengers took control of their destiny and to protect their President and fellow countrymen, overtook their hijackers. They gave their lives to save others. These are our hero's! We will NEVER forget you. This set the tone of the day and for the days to come. September 11th brought out every emotion that a human could feel. We were sad, angry, horrified, bewildered and yet we still found hope. On September 11th, our country discovered the very core of what makes us such a great nation. In spite of our great loss and the incredible shock and sadness that we felt, we rallied together. Total strangers embraced one another in the spirit of brotherly love. Every blood bank in America was over-crowded with people giving their blood. Even the poorest of families found extra money to donate to the relief of those who were suffering. Not just here in America either. Countries all over the globe stood beside us in our grief and felt our pain as if it were their own. America also found heroes in the policemen, firefighters and volunteers that gave their own lives to help people they had never met before, rushing into burning buildings with no thought to their own safety. Our President and government leaders rose to the challenge set before them, succeeding in reassuring a baffled nation that justice would prevail and this atrocity would not go unpunished. We will never be able to gain back the husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, children and friends that we lost on September 11th. Our hearts go out to all that lost a loved one on that tragic day. Although we may not have known them personally, we grieved with you as if we did. And that has made us stronger; as individuals, as a nation and as a human race. These terrorists may have succeeded in bringing down our buildings and killing so many of our people, but over-all they failed. They failed to kill our spirit. They failed to break us as a nation. If anything, they have made us stronger and more determined to protect our freedom. United We Stand! The American flag has flown outside our home since September 11, 2001. One was tattered and torn by wind, we immediately replaced it. It shall remain there. Wednesday, September 11th is just two days away. I don't have to remind you of the significance of this day in our nation's, and the world's, history. Please prepare now to remember the first anniversary of this tragic day. * Everyone who will be driving a motor vehicle is asked to drive with their headlights on during daylight hours. * Wear RED, WHITE & BLUE to work or school to show your support for those who lost their lives on 9~11~01 and to honor the heroes who worked to save them and the families left behind. Remember, also, those of other nations besides the United States who lost citizen's in the terrorist attack. * At NOON your time, no matter where you are or what you are doing, stop, put your hand on your heart, and say the Pledge of Allegiance out loud or to yourself and say a prayer for our nation. If all of us do this together in every time zone around the world, we will have a powerful chain of thoughts surrounding us. Our prayers are with all of you who have been impacted, directly or indirectly, by this dark event in our lives. God Bless All Of You & God Bless America! |
