On June 5, 1956, Elvis appeared on the Milton Berle Show. This was a highly controversial and very sexy preformance of Hound Dog. Elvis also sang "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You"

In July 1956 Elvis does a parody to that sketch on Steve Allen's show by singing to a real Basset hound. Elvis isn't happy about it - but he does it. His success on Berle and Allen prompt the previously reluctant Ed Sullivan to sign a three appearance deal for $50,000 - an unheard of amount back then.
