"Too Much" was recorded September 2, 1956 for RCA at Radio Recorders, Hollywood. First released as Single: Too Much/Playing For Keeps January 1957.  On The Charts: Billboard's Top 100 (17 weeks-peaked at #2), Country Juke Box (peaked at #3). Sales were One million plus.
In 1956, four Elvis Presley singles had together accumulated sales of more than eight million copies in the United States alone. Recordings aside, Elvis had appeared on eleven television shows and in a major motion picture which, if not critically acclaimed, was certainly successful. With the third and last of the contracted Ed Sullivan performances set for January 6, 1957, it looked as if things were simply going to follow the same preordained as the previous year
For his third Sullivan show, Elvis was filmed only from the waist up in an attempt to do more subtly what Steve Allen had tried so awkwardly the previous summer: to make Elvis Presley respectable. Dressed in a flashy golden vest, he raced through some of his biggest hits, plugging his new single. The final song of the extended appearance was a deeply felt version of "Peace In The Valley." As Sullivan closed the show, in an unexpected and apparently genuine move, he told his audience and the singer: "This is a decent, fine boy...We've never had a pleasanter experience with a big name than we've had with you." Acknowledging the tribute, Elvis looked both sheepish and a little overwhelmed. In the wings the Colonel must have been beaming; this was the image he'd been working so hard to achieve. And to him the future was plain: There would be no more TV shows, much less touring, fewer records...but definitely more movies. The Colonel had seen how quickly overexposure could kill a career, how soon the public grew tired of what they were offered for free, He would never let that happen to his boy.

This is a trip down Memory Lane. I always loved this song, brings back a lot of good memories for me.
Well honey, I love you too much
I need your lovin' too much
Want the thrill of your touch
Wee gee, I can't hold you too much
You do all the livin'
While I do all the givin'
Cause I love you too much

Well you spend all my money too much
Have to share you honey, too much
When I want some lovin', you're gone
Don't you know you're treatin' your Daddy wrong
Now you got me started
Don't you leave me broken hearted
Cause I love you too much

I need your lovin' all the time
Need you huggin', please be mine
Need you near me, stay real close
Please, please, hear me, you're the most
Now you got me started
Don't you leave me broken hearted
Cause I love you too much

Well ev'ry time I kiss your sweet lips
I can feel my heart go flip flip
I'm such a fool for your charms
Take me back baby in your arms
Like to hear you sighin'
Even though I know you're lyin'
Cause I love you too much

I need your lovin' all the time
Need you huggin', please be mine
Need you near me, stay real close
Please, please, hear me, you're the most
Now you got me started
Don't you leave me broken hearted
Cause I love you too much
