"It's Midnight" was recorded for "Good Times" on December 10, 1973.  This song was a natural to attract Elvis. A powerhouse of desolate, dark feelings, it described the late-night loneliness of the abandoned singer: "It's Midnight, and I Miss You." It was virtually a page from Elvis's own diary, and he worked on the song for hours, becoming despondent whenever he made a mistake. By take nineteen every bit of emotion had been loaded onto the tape. When Felton reassured him with his usual encouragement (It's a gas"), Elvis rejected him: "I don't believe you." But after listening to the playback he accepted the verdict
Billy Ed Wheeler and Jerry Chesnut wrote this song while driving to Nashville. By the time they arrived, it was completed. It was an award winning record for them.

     (QUOTE)
Charlie Hodge , one of Elvis' closest friends,
From the book ( THE LIFE OF ELVIS PRESLEY )
Elvis loved playing games, but at other times his mood often changed to a deep depression, like the time Priscilla and a friend went to see him perform in Las Vegas, after their divorce. It was 1974 and she came with a girlfriend says Charlie. They sat in the booth Elvis always reserved for her and when he spotted them , He sang Priscillas' Favorite song "IT'S MIDNIGHT''  He walked to the edge of the stage, looked at her, and tears were streaming down his cheeks. He was all broke up.
She was the only girl he really ever loved.............
Maybe it's too late. Sometimes I even
hate myself for loving you
Trying to be strong then nighttime
comes along and I start loving you
Wanting you. Where is all my selfcontrol
I'm burning way down in my soul
And needing you, and wishing I
could be the man, I try to
Hating me for wanting you to be with you knowing
you don't love me like you used to
But it's midnight, Ohh and I miss you

It's getting late and I know that's when I am weak
Funny how things have a way of looking
so much brighter in the day light
I ought to go to bed to try and straighten
out my head and just forget you
Oh but it's midnight yes and I miss you

It's getting late and I know that's when I am weak
Funny how things have a way of looking
so much brighter in the day light
I ought to go to bed to try and straighten
out my head and just forget you
Oh but it's midnight yes and I miss you

It's midnight and I miss you
