| This version of "Your Love's Been A Long Time Coming," is from the newly released album "Today, Tomorrow & Forever," and is Alt. Take 10 recorded December 15, 1973. The second group of Stax sessions in December 1973 was altogether more successful. Elvis had put his October 9 divorce behind him, and arrived with an appetite for making music. He was back from the brink, and recorded some of his most satisfying work in years. Elvis and the Colonel realized that their new publishing set-up couldn't deliver enough suitable songs, so producer Felton Jarvis was finally given the green light to draw on his writer-publisher connections in Nashville. Dennis Linde's "I Got A Feeling In My Body" was the first on the slate: a funky soul groove blurred the line between sacred and secular. "Your Love's Been A Long Time Coming" was by Rory Bourke, who had cowritten Elvis' hit "Patch It Up," as well as Charlie Rich's 1973 megahit "The Most Beautiful Girl." Elvis loved the song and stayed late at the studio listening repeatedly to the playbacks over and over, as in days of old, while musicians and singers drifted out to the parking lot waiting to be dismissed for the night. The master of "Your Love's Been A Long Time Coming" was shortened by 1:00 for release. First released on LP: "Promised Land" 1975. Peacock jumpsuit is also from "Promised Land." |
