Studio Sessions for RCA December 10-16, 1973: Stax Studios, Memphis. With the divorce settlement behind him and no live engagements in the near future, RCA's demand for new material caught Elvis at a much better time than it had back in July. The hospitalization in October had given him a much-needed rest as well as a strong motivation to clean up his lifestyle. And with Linda Thompson at his side, Elvis seemed to be looking to the future with both confidence and determination.
On the final night of the sessions, Elvis's voice sounded stronger and clearer than it had at the beginning, as if the sessions themselves had been a kind of healing process. By the time the second Stax sessions concluded late that night, Elvis was eighteen takes into Ray Price's 1968 hit "She Wears My Ring," a comfortable old favorite he'd sung at home for years.
Elvis Presley's career had never seen a year of greater highs or lows than 1973. From the triumph of
Aloha From Hawaii Elvis had gone into a tailspin of failure on all fronts; plunging record sales, divorce, problems with his health and his weight. Now just days before Christmas, at the conclusion of a set of sessions forced on him by his record company, there once again was reason for hope.
"She Wears My Ring" was recorded December 16, 1973, first released on
LP; Good Times 1974

Sandi requested "The Frist Time Ever I Saw Your Face," but since I've already done that , I decided to do "She Wears My Ring" instead. Sandi also sent me some very interesting information which I must say turned me a little green with envy. LOL. Sandi's email is as follows.

WOW! Joyce (Biddie) and I were at Stax when he recorded this one! (Loving Arms for Maurice) Thanks for making me relive old memories.  It was snowing that night in Memphis and we were sitting in our car when a security guard brought us a cup of hot chocolate and said "The man thought you might be cold. " or something to that affect - anyway a few minutes later we were invited inside!
Would you do "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" for me? I was in Vegas the first time he did that one and it has always been a special favorite of mine. This is another one we heard along with "She Wears My Ring"

Thanks so Much,
Sandi

She wears my ring to show the world that she belongs to me
She wears my ring to show the world she's mine eternally
With loving care I placed it on her finger
To show my love for all the world to see

This tiny ring is a token of tender emotion
An endless pool of love that's as deep as the ocean
She swears to wear it with eternal devotion
That's why I sing, because she wears my ring

She swears to wear it with eternal devotion
That's why I sing, because she wears my ring

This tiny ring is a token of tender emotion
An endless pool of love that's as deep as the ocean
She swears to wear it with eternal devotion
That's why I sing, because she wears my ring
That's why I sing, because she wears my ring
