I received the following email from Donna. Since these type emails make my head swell, I'm not adding book information on this page. We love a challenge, but actually it wasn't that hard. You can find this version on "The Lost Performances,"  it is also on the 70's Masters but recorded as two separate tracks. This was recorded  for "That's The Way It Is" at the  International Hotel  August 11, 1970, but not released on the video.

From Donna:
     Hi!!  I just LOVE your site!!!!  I have a request...although you may not be able to do it.  Its a very hard find...called "Walk A Mile In My Shoes".  Everyone knows that song...but nobody has the introduction to it that Elvis gave on stage.
     I heard it was on the 70's collection...but have never been able to find it.  Actually, NOBODY has ever been able to find it, here on the computer and I have asked so many.  Thats why I said it may be too difficult for you.  I think its a great song...especially now...with the state that the world is in.  If you can do this one...with the intro...you will be the first! Thanks in advance,
Donna ;o)

     A special thanks goes to Chris for giving me the right date, and Tamara for all the hard work she does to make this website so special. Without her, I am nothing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You never stood in that man's shoes
Or saw things through his eyes
Or stood and watched with helpless hands
As the heart inside you dies.
So help your brother along the way
No matter where he starts
For the same God that made you made him too
These men with broken hearts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If I could be you, if you could be me
For just one hour, if we could find a way
To get inside each other's mind
If you could see you through my eyes
Instead your own ego I believe you'd be
I believe you'd be surprised to see
That you've been blind

Walk a mile in my shoes
just walk a mile in my shoes
Before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Then walk a mile in my shoes

Now if we spend the day
Throwin' stones at one another
'Cause I don't think, 'cause I don't think
Or wear my hair the same way you do
Well, I may be common people
But I'm your brother
And when you strike out
You're tryin' to hurt me
It's hurtin' you, Lord how mercy

Now there are people on reservations
And out in the ghetto
And brother there, but, for the grace of God
Go you and I,
If I only had wings of a little angel
Don't you know, I'd fly
To the top of a mountain
And then I'd cry, cry, cry
